More security forces deployed in Bihar for polls
At least 100 companies of the Central para-military forces are to be deployed in the remaining 20 of the 54 Lok Sabha constituencies which go to the poll in the second phase of election in Bihar on February 22. 96.1 companies of the Bihar military police, 395 officers of the district armed police, 664 havildars and 6,555 constables are also to be pressed into service to conduct "free, peaceful and fair" poll.
Advani loses "war for crowds" to Sonia
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president L K Advani lost the `battle for crowds' to Sonia Gandhi, but that did not deter him from challenging the Congress' star campaigner to have a `war of words' with him. His public meeting yesterday at Tumsar failed to touch the level of frenzy created just three days ago at the same place by Sonia. This despite the fact that the crowd of nearly 30,000 which assembled was fairly large by any yardstick for this small town in Bhandara district.

Apology for Babri demolition won't fetch votes for Congress, says Pilot
Senior Congress leader and former Union minister Rajesh Pilot feels that the apology on the Babri mosque demolition will not get the party any additional votes. He did not elaborate on the reasons for this but said, "Political leaders must stop speaking the language of votes if democracy is to be strengthened".
With foes as his best friends, Praful Patel just can't lose
The sitting Congress Lok Sabha member, Praful Patel, could have been the BJP candidate from Bhandara Lok Sabha constituency if the arithmetic of 47 Congress MPs leaving the party to support a BJP government at the centre to avoid a mid-term poll had worked out. It did not. There were only 40 MPs and Patel was one of those at the helm of the group. So, he is today the Congress candidate from Bhandara.

RSS stance on Kesri flummoxes political bosses
The decision of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to take on Congress president Sitaram Kesri in a public battle has surprised political circles, more used to the tendency of the organisation to keep a low profile. BJP insiders said that this is one of the rare instances that the RSS has moved court to sue for defamation.
The myth called the Muslim vote monolith
Will Muslims vote en bloc for one party? Or will they listen to Sayyed Shahabuddin and go for tactical voting to tilt the balance in favour of anyone who looks like defeating the BJP? Old questions, bolstered by the myth that the Indian Muslims comprise a monolithic vote bank, are being asked again as the election for the 12th Lok Sabha is mid-way.
