  Appelmans fells Graf
Sabine Appelmans of Belgium derailed Steffi Graf's comeback when she beat the German 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) today in the quarter-finals of the WTA Tour event in Hanover. Appelmans kept her nerve after second-seeded Graf fought back from 2-5 down in the second set and won on her fourth match point.
Pakistan to go on with tour: Latif
Pakistan's tour of South Africa would continue despite unhappiness about persistent speculation over the mugging of two players. Scotching rumours that his team was headed homewards Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has announced that there was no question of the team returning home.

Taylor aims to make a mark
The Australian captain Mark Taylor leads his team to India tomorrow for a tour which may prove a defining moment of his successful reign. Under Taylor, a resolute opening batsman and attacking leader, Australia has reached the summit of world cricket.
Zimbabwe struggle
Zimbabwe were left reeling at 132 for eight wickets at stumps on the first day of the first Test against New Zealand at Wellington's Basin Reserve on Thursday. Having won the toss and elected to bat, Zimbabwe got off to a good start after lunch. However, at the close tail-enders Heath Streak not out nine and Adam Huckle one were left to face the fired-up Kiwis with the total at 132 for the loss of eight wickets.

Shandilya, Merchant top
National coaches Michael Ferreira and Arvind Savur could not have asked for a more exciting climax to the second preparatory billiards and snooker camp for the Asian Games '98. Former National champion Ashok Shandilya of Railways pipped former world matchplay runner-up Devendra Joshi of Maharashtra to annex the billiards title, while Joshi's state-mate former Asian champion Yasin Merchant edged out Tamil Nadu's Rafat Habib to emerge the winner in the snooker section.
Treat us like ambassadors, not beggars: Sethi
Geet Sethi, the 36-year-old professional from Ahmedabad, now synonymous with excellence and achievement in billiards has now set himself a new goal -- a gold at the Bangkok Asian Games in December this year. Sethi however reckons that billiards has not been accorded the sort of recognition it deserves from the government and neither have India's professional players as they should have. "After all, we are ambassadors of the country," he bemoans.
