Pawar, Kalmadi take power play to sports fields

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, February 20: Not content with parting ways in the political arena, Pune Vikas Aghadi leader Suresh Kalmadi and his one time mentor Sharad Pawar, have now taken their war to the sporting fields.

Both Pawar and Kalmadi are making desperate attempts to woo sportsmen and sports bodies for their political campaigns. Being president of the Indian Olympics Association, Kalmadi has so far succeeded in recruiting services of several local sports personalities. Taking serious note of this, Pawar, who also holds positions in various sports bodies, has conducted two meetings of sportspersons in the city for the campaign of Congress candidate Vitthal Tupe.

Wrestler Balasaheb Landge, kabaddi player Sadhana Dharia-Shroff, motorcross rider Shyam Kothari are already campaigning for Kalmadi, while Dnyaneshwar Agashe, chairman of Maharashtra Cricket Association, and veteran sports organiser Haribhau Sane are working for Tupe.
