NEW DELHI, February 20: India justified their top billing by winning both their ties in Pool A of the Asia-Oceania qualifying round Group II in the Fed Cup tennis at Bangkok today to continue their unbeaten streak.India thrashed Pacific Oceania 2-0 today after beating Tajikistan 2-1 yesterday to win both their matches in Pool A after the teams were re-arranged into three pools.
Uzma Khan fought well to overcome Paiao Short 7-5, 7-5 before Nirumapama Vaidyanathan, downed Tagifani So'Onalole 6-2, 7-5.
Yesterday against Tajikistan, Uzma Khan rallied well to win the first singles beat Eugenia Silantieva 4-6, 6-0, 6-0 before Nirupama beat Ioulia Roudkovskaia 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. India, however, lost the doubles when Ioulia and Eugenia quelled the fighting Rushmi Chakravarthy and Arati Ponnappa 6-4, 7-6 (7-0).
