MUMBAI, February 20: Gavryl Fernandes put himself on line for a double in the Inter-Schools tennis championships co-sponsored by Garden Silk Mills, Pepsi and Head at the Garden Tennis Academy today.

Third-seeded Gavryl (Rajhans Vidyalaya) claimed the under-16 doubles title with school-mate Zubin Shetty and entered the final in the singles section, upsetting second seed Vivek Jhaveri (Manav Mandir) 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The Tanna cousins Akshay and Krishne took their school, Cathedral and John Connon into the finals with a win in the deciding doubles after the two teams were tied at 1-1. Rohan Gajjar beat Akshay to put Jasudben ahead while Krishne drew parity in the second singles. The cousins then handed Gajjar and Rewant Datta their second defeat of the afternoon in the doubles.
