No ultimatum to Baghdad: Annan
United Nations chief Kofi Annan has said that he would not present Iraqi President Saddam Hussein with an ultimatum but with ideas to avert the use of force to break the deadlock over UN arms inspections. He however did not give details of proposals he would make on his trip to prevent US-led strikes to force Iraq to open up Presidential compounds to arms inspectors.

Srikrishna report yet to be published: Joshi
Maharashtra chief minister Manohar Joshi has ruled out immediate publication of the Justice Srikrishna Commission report into the 1992-93 communal riots in Mumbai and the subsequent serial blasts. However, the government has no intention of hiding the contents of the report, Joshi said.

Pakistan is developing a 1,500 km-range missile called "Ghauri," according to a Congressional Research Service (CRS) document. The document quoted Gordon Oehler, former director of the Central Intelligence Agency's non-proliferation centre, as having "confirmed" this development on November 19, 1997.
