Following large-scale booth-capturing and election malpractices, the Election Commission has ordered fresh polls in the entire Patna Lok Sabha constituency on the eve of the second phase of voting in 185 seats in 12 states. The commission has also deferred repoll in 584 booths of nine constituencies of Bihar scheduled for February 24.
  Shoot orders in Mulayam territory
A shoot-at-sight order was issued and para-military forces and police staged a flag march in Sambhal yesterday, from where Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav is contesting the February 22 Lok Sabha poll, to check possible outbreak of violence. The constituency, where the Defence Minister is pitted against his former close associate D P Yadav of Jantantrik BSP, has been declared as "super sensitive" in view of reports of tension.

Addressing impressive election meetings at Saharsa, Madhubani and Maharajganj, Bihar during her fourth and final leg of electioneering in Bihar, Gandhi said, "the politics of caste and religion has posed serious threat to our country."
Police in hot pursuit of Laloo's kin
The Election Commission's guidelines seem to have finally cornered Sadhu Yadav, the all powerful brother-in-law of Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav. With Gopalganj police officials chasing him with an arrest warrant for allegedly slapping a police officer on duty, even a phone call from the Chief Minister's residence has failed to deter the determined cops.
