  US may increase professional visa quota
The Clinton administration is considering a proposal to increase immigration quota for foreign professionals by nearly 50%. The move will have a significant impact -- both positive and negative -- on India, a principle source of hi-tech white collar work force for the United States.

Raytheon radar fails again

SC notices to Centre, DCA on consumer courts
The Supreme Court, on Monday, issued notices to the Union Government and the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) on a public interest petition seeking immediate filling up of vacancies for president of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and all other consumer courts in the country.

HC seeks records of officials' extensions
The Delhi High Court, on Monday, rapped the Centre for its ``casual approach'' in a case regarding extensions to 12 top bureaucrats, including Cabinet Secretary T S R Subramaniam, and asked the Election Commission (EC) whether grant of such extensions violated the model code of conduct.
