Asiad to go out `live' to 18 countries

BANGKOK: Eighteen countries from Asia and the Middle East have signed up to broadcast the 13th Asian Games live from Thailand when the sporting event kicks off in December, organisers said today.

The Games will be seen live in India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Phillippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon. The Games run from Dec 6 to Dec 20.

Pace to spin

BRIDGETOWN: The West Indies selectors changed their all-pace policy for the fourth cricket Test against England that starts in Georgetown, Guyana, on Friday.

Trinidadian leg-spinner Dinanath Ramnarine, 22, was included inb their squad of 13, announced here this week by West Indies Cricket Board Secretary Andrew Sealy. The final team will be chosen fromb the 13.

The squad: Brian Lara (captain), Carl Hooper (vice-captain), Sherwin Campbell, Stuart Williams, Shivnarine Chanderpaul,Jimmy Adams, David williams, Roland Holder, Curtly Ambrose, Courtney Walsh, Ian Bishop, Dinanath Ramnarine and Nixon McLean.

Ever Greene

MELBOURNE: American Maurice Greene confirmed his ranking as the fastest man in the world with a convincing win over Canada's Donovan Bailey at an international meeting here today.

Greene, who upset Bailey to win last year's world championships, once again outsped the reigning Olympic Champion and world record holder over the blue riband distance of 100 metres.
