Indian gymnasts win gold

ALLAHABAD: India, keeping their superiority in the region in tact, won the team gold in both the men's and women's sections without any fuss in the first SARRC Gymnastics Championships at the Boys High School compound here on Friday.

In order to keep the SAARC spirit alive, Sri Lanka were awarded the silver in both the sections. Bangladesh men and women took the bronze while Nepal finished fourth in the men's section.

Results (Men): India seniors 236.05, Sri Lanka 178.70, Bangladesh 167.05, Nepal 152.15. India juniors: 225.15. Women: India: 152.60, Sri Lanka 111.75, Bangladesh 87.35.

TT squad

NEW DELHI: A five-member Indian team returned this morning after participating in the $ 90,000 Qatar Open Table Tennis Tournament with nothing to show by way of performance. But they gained experience after having played against some of the world's best.

Krishna wins gold

JAMSHEDPUR: K Krishna Kumari, of Andhra Pradesh, retained the titlefor the 63 kg category, for the fourth time since 1995, at the 12th women's Junior National Weightlifting championship at the JRD Tata Sports Complex here. The 19-year old younger sister of K Maleswari bagged gold in snatch (70 kg) and set up a new national record in jerk (97.5 kg).

Live telecast

NEW DELHI: ESPN will telecast live the three-Test cricket series between India and Australia. The schedule: First Test (March 6-10) from 0950 hrs; Second Test (March 18-22) from 0920 hrs; Third Test (March 25-29) from 0950 hrs. Highlights will be shown at 2230 hrs.

Orissa in final

AGRA: Orissa and Manipur entered the final in the men's section of the first National Rugby Championship here on Friday. Orissa trounced Chandigarh 12-5, while Manipur beat Punjab 8-3. In the women's group, UP play Delhi in the final.

Umpires for Test

MUMBAI: S Venkatraghvan and George Sharp of England will officiate in the first Test between India and Australia starting at Chennai fromMarch six. K Murali of TN will be the third umpire. BC Cooray of Sri Lanka and David Shepherd of England are the neutral umpires for the second and third tests respectively.

Hc notice to BCCI

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court issued show cause notices to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and Ministry of Sports on a public interest petition against the suspension of Delhi from the Ranji Trophy tournament.
