Minister's house raided

MOTIHARI: The police last night raided the house of state Energy Minister Brij Bihari Prasad, an accused in the recent killing of Samajwadi Party candidate from Motihari, Devendranath Dubey. Police Superintendent, east Champaran district, Rampravesh Singh, told newsmen on Friday that the police could not lay hands on the minister during the raid. Meanwhile, the police have moved a Motihari court seeking issuance of warrant for arresting Prasad, who along with his brother Shyam Bihari Prasad and others, has been named accused in the FIR lodged.

Rajiv case

CHENNAI: All the 26 sentenced to death in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case by a designated court here on January 28 have appealed to the Supreme Court against their sentences, a defence lawyer said. Advocate S Doraisamy said the set of criminal appeals, challenging the convictions and seeking an interim stay on the executions, had been filed in the apex court.

Blast in Pak

LAHORE:At least five people, including a child and a woman, were killed and 16 injured when a bomb exploded on Friday in a passenger van at Gujranwala in the Pakistani province of Punjab. The injured were rushed to hospital and three of them were in ``critical'' condition. The explosion, the third in Punjab in two days, completely destroyed the van at the transport terminal.
