  Iraq rejects new US draft
Iraq has rejected a United States-inspired draft resolution in the United Nations, warning Baghdad of severe punishment if it did not comply with the agreement to throw open Presidential sites to UN weapons inspectors.
  Counting begins today, first result by the morrow
With the Election Commission streamlining the counting process in New Delhi and four of the smaller constituencies, the first of the results to the Lok Sabha polls should be available by the early hours of Tuesday.

Exit polls give a `hung' verdict
Exit polls telecast only served to compound the suspense over the results of elections '98: The two post-poll surveys on Doordarshan and TVI gave confoundingly divergent predictions. If TVI's forecast was good news for the Congress and caused gloom in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Doordarshan's predictions had the reverse effect on both parties. Neither the Congress nor the BJP (with allies) are expected to be close to a majority.
The LC spectre continues to haunt Kalyan ministry
UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh's worries have begun with a struggle within the Loktantrik Congress. LC leader Naresh Agarwal is putting pressure on Kalyan to drop two LC ministers, Harishanker Tiwari and Shyam Sundar Sharma.

Cong to form Govt despite Naga protest
A formal meeting of Congress legislators has been convened at the Congress Bhavan in Kohima today to elect their leader. It is learnt that all executives of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee, district presidents and frontal chiefs have been asked to attend the meeting. Political parties barring the Congress have joined tribal bodies and NGOs in their protest against the formation of a "fraudulent and Proxy" government.
Mushtaq spins trouble for SA
Mushtaq Ahmad produced a dazzling display of leg-spin bowling to take Pakistan to the brink of victory on the fourth day of the second Test against South Africa yesterday. Mushtaq took six for 66 as South Africa, chasing 255 for victory, collapsed to 186 for eight.
