  Ambrose, Walsh demolish England
Fast bowlers Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh led the West Indies' trouncing of England on Monday by 242 runs on the fourth day of the fourth Cable and Wireless cricket Test at Bourda. West Indies bowled England out for 137 runs to gain a 2-1 lead in the six-match series with two Tests remaining.
  Anand placed joint second
Indian Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand and his rival Alexy Shirov of Russia agreed to a draw in their round eight match of the Linares Grandmasters chess tournament in Linares yesterday. The result ensured that Shirov maintained his position at the top with 4.5 points, followed closely by Anand with 4.0 points.

Inclement weather stalls Agarkar fury
Bad weather once again dented the the touring Indian team's hopes as the third day's play of their third "Test" against Pakistan "A" was disrupted due to bad light and rain at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore yesterday. The Indians, who declared at their overnight score, had the Pakistanis reeling at 68 for 3 when the weather forced stoppage of play.
Rafter, Rusedski find going tough
US Open champion Patrick Rafter met unexpected resistance from wild card entry Peter Wessels in the Abn Amro Indoor Tournament fighting through 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 in Rotterdam on Monday. In another match Britain's Greg Rusedski defeated Moroccan Karim Alami, 6-7 (9-7), 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-4).

Houghton happy with team spirit
Zimbabwe cricket coach David Houghton is surprised by the resilience shown by his team as they prepare for Wednesday's limited overs international on the ill-fated tour of New Zealand. Beaten 2-0 in the Test series and down 2-0 in the best-of-five limited overs series, Zimbabwe desperately need a win at Lancaster Park in Christchurch today.
Altaf quits over Akram inclusion
The chairman of the Pakistan cricket selectors, Salim Altaf, yesterday resigned in protest at the inclusion of controversial pace bowler Wasim Akram in the squad touring South Africa. Altaf told reporters that Akram had been invited to join the team in South Africa in contravention of the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) constitution.
