Not so fast, Mr Fernandes
In a bizarre reversal of roles, it is beginning to look as though Indian industry will henceforth have to hold a brief for foreign investors against the rantings of politicians who threaten to be members of a BJP-led government. Thus FICCI chief K.K. Modi and the Confederation of Indian Industry each has had to defend the presence of foreign investors against the jingoism of George Fernandes.

An alliance with the EC
The other day I ran into my school buddy Chandramouliswamy at one of the capital's cocktail parties. I was a little surprised to see him, because he was a dropout. Clearly, he was doing well for himself now. Before getting into his Mercedes he stopped for a moment and chatted about old times and buddies.

The nine o'clock war is irrelevant
Recent media reports have highlighted the dissatisfaction among Air Force personnel over disparities in the new play scales. The reports generally carried the views of only the disgruntled people, because they went to newspaper offices and gave free vent to their ire. As against this, there was no communication from the Air HQ or from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to give the other side of the picture. As such, balanced reporting became difficult.

It takes two to tango
The stance of the AIADMK and the Trinamul Congress has not helped resolve the present political impasse in Delhi. By opting to extend only outside support to a possible BJP-led government, both parties have settled for being conveniently close to power but remaining free of the responsibilities it entails. Outside support makes for inside instability, of that there can be little doubt.
