  China to cut troops in three years
China yesterday pledged to implement its earlier commitment to cut its troops by five lakh and engage in `friendly and good-neighbourly relations' with bordering countries while resisting all forms of hegemonism and power politics. The news was communicated when the Premier Li Peng announced, "We shall complete on schedule the task of reducing our armed forces by 500,000 persons within three years".

Centre lifts ban on onion exports
The Central Government has lifted the two-month old ban on onion exports on Wednesday, just in time to prevent a glut of onions following fresh arrivals of the late kharif crop.
