March 13: Holders Maharashtra Labour Welfare Board (MLWB), Naigaon rallied to defeat BSES Sports Club 2-1 in the Dashrath Chavan Memorial Veedol Trophy Inter-club carrom tournament organised by Suresh Vyamshala and Jai Bhavani Kreeda Mandal (Chinchpokli) at J J Hospital Servants' CHS Society Hall, Byculla.Pradeep Jadhav of BSES defeated Ramesh Deokhule to put his team in lead. Dilesh Khedekar pulled one back for MLWB by defeating Suhas Pomendkar. Sajid Sayyad recovered from a first game loss to clinch the title for MLWB with a 0-25, 25-22, 25-22 win over Narsing Rao of BSES.
Results (final): Dilesh Khedekar bt Suhas Poendkar 25-4, 17-25, 25-5; Ramesh Deokhule bt Pradeep Jadhav 25-4, 16-25, 8-25; Saajid Sayyad bt Narsing Rao 0-25, 25-22, 25-22. Player of the tournament: Sajid Sayyad.
Rumania scrape through
Rumania Sports Club defeated St Francis Boys Home 5-4 via tie-breaker in the 18th Brother Paulus football tournament at the St Francis D'Assisi High School grounds today. Both teams were tiedgoalless at full time.
Suresh Arya, Sally Fernandes, Baptist Lobo, Trever Rodrigues and Vinod R found the net for Rumania, while Steven Quoadros, Nagesh Loke, Amit Dongre, Sushant Pawar scored for St Francis.
