BJP warned of Jaya bid to plant `bomb' Swamy

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
CHENNAI, March 13: United Communist Party of India (UCPI) Tamil Nadu unit president D Pandian today described Janata Party president Subramaniam Swamy as a ``sophisticated bomb'' and cautioned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against giving him a berth in the cabinet if the party were to form a government at the centre. Talking to newsmen here, he said the very inclusion of Swamy in the cabinet, leave alone giving him the finance portfolio, would amount to planting a bomb under Vajpayee's chair.

He alleged that AIADMK leader J Jayalalitha's reported demand that the BJP allot the finance portfolio to Swamy was only to protect her interests. She could trigger the ``bomb'' any time, he said and warned the BJP against succumbing to her pressures.

Criticising Jayalalitha's demands for submitting her party's and its allies' letters supporting the BJP government, Pandian said while she had every right as an alliance partner to seek a share in the cabinet, she had no right to make a demand on the cabinet posts.
