Noisy scenes in Karnataka House

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
BANGALORE, March 13: Karnataka Legislative Assembly today witnessed noisy scenes when Opposition party members protested against non-release of funds by the government for the Ashraya housing scheme.

Several members complained that the government had not released funds for the year 1994-95, 1995-96 and demanded a categorical assurance from the government on fund release during question hour.

Housing Minister H D Revanna said the budgetary allocations earmarked for 1994-95 and 1995-96 had been released.

He said that although the government had issued a circular that funds released earlier should be spent on completing work on houses, it was utilised on fresh programmes of the current year.

U B Banakar, BJP, staged a dharna for a brief while protesting against non-release of funds, but called it off later.
