ISI network smashed in Jammu

JAMMU: Police have smashed a network of Pakistan's inter-state intelligence (ISI) and seized a huge quantity of arms and ammunition with the arrest of two active members of the gang operating in border districts of Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region.

These two local agents confessed that they had been assigned by Pakistan's ISI to create large scale violence and internal disturbance in Jammu region by targeting vital installations, police said here today. Besides they were also directed to cause explosions at busy and thickly crowded areas like bus stands, bazars, railway station and to blow up railway tracks, police said.

HP decision today

NEW DELHI:The Union Cabinet will meet here on Friday to take a decision on the report of Himachal Pradesh Governor Rama Devi recommending imposing of President's rule in the state following political stalemate. Official sources said tonight that Home Minister Indrajit Gupta had met Prime Minister I K Gujral to discussthe Governor's report, which was received by the Centre on Wednesday night.

RS candidate

BANGALORE: BJP general secretary M Venkaiah Naidu, would be fielded as party candidate in the biennial elections to Rajya Sabha to fill four vacancies in the state from the legislative assembly on March 27. The other two main contenders -- the ruling Janata Dal and the Congress -- are yet to finalise their candidates. Last date for filing nominations is March 17.

Lanka strife

COLOMBO: The Israeli-built Kfir ground attack aircraft of the Sri Lanka airforce today attacked two LTTE bases in the jungles north of Mankulam town in the northern Vanni and destroyed them. The attacks were carried out after aerial reconnaissance of locations by the Israeli made unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), army sources said.

Pak landslide

MUZAFFARABAD: A landslide caused by heavy rain swept away at least two houses in a mountain village in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), killing 13 people.
