HC pulls up Jaya for engineering scam in granite lease
The Madras High Court has censured the former AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu led by Jayalalitha for causing the state a loss of Rs 80 crore in the grant of lease for black granite quarrying by violating tender norms. Dismissing a petition Justice A Ramamurthy observed that the records indicated that the entire fraud had taken place with the full knowledge and involvement of the then industries minister.

BJD demands four ministerial berths
Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will have issue-based participation in the Bharatiya Janata Party led government at the Centre. The BJD leaders have pressed for four ministerial berths and the dismissal of J B Patnaik government in the state. It said all its demands before Vajpayee were fair and in the interest of the state.

LDF to introduce law for speedy clearance of investors' proposals
Renewing its commitment to a policy of vigorous economic growth, industrial promotion and decentralisation, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Kerala yesterday promised legislation for speedy clearance of investors' proposals and an export promotion council to promote rubber-based industries and export of natural rubber, apart from welfare measures for those outside the mainstream of economic growth.
