Charles & Camilla play joint hosts

LONDON: Prince Charles and his companion Camilla Parker Bowles held a reception for 26 guests at the Queen's Sandringham Estate over the weekend, The Sun newspaper said on Monday. It was the first time the couple, who have known each other for 25 years, had held such an event, The Sun said in its front page story. Among the guests were Peter Mandelson, the minister without portfolio who plays a key strategic role in Prime Minister Tony Blair's Government, and the billionaire Lord Jacob Rothschild. In July of last year, Prince Charles held a 50th birthday party for Parker-Bowles, who has been a figure of public dislike for her role in the breakup of Prince Charles' marriage to Princess Diana. The couple are rarely seen together and are careful never to be pictured side by side.

Vintage bomb

INFANTA: A World War II vintage US Army bomb has been found by construction workers building a septic tank in this coastal town, police said. The bomb,1.5 metres long and weighing 150 pounds, was dug up inside a plot owned by Abello Quierrez of Barangay Poblacion Bantilan. The bomb was handed over by the local police to the Philippine Navy Bomb Disposal Unit for further verification.

Animal high

NEW YORK: American teenagers are increasingly turning to a tranquiliser used to sedate animals before surgery for a new high, a report said on Monday. Use of Ketamine or "Special K" as it is known in the dark alleys of New York has become very popular among the younger section in recent years, the report said. The report quoted officials as saying that Ketamine is a "getaway drug" which can lead to further experimentation with more potent narcotics. The drug is a quick acting "dissociative" used in cats prior to neutering operations and by researchers to calm monkeys and other animals before experiments.
