UGC grant for collegesA University Grants Commission (UGC) commission has provided a whopping Rs 6.7 crore to 66 colleges affiliated to the University of Mumbai. Pro-vice chancellor Dr Naresh Chandra said this was the first time that such a massive amount has been provided to so many colleges. The highest individual grant of Rs 20 lakh has gone to KJ Somaiya College of Science and Commerce, Vidyavihar, followed by Rs 18 lakh each for Bhavan's College (Andheri) and CHM College, Ulhasnagar. Mithibai College recieved Rs 15 lakh, while Rs 14 lakh each went to institutes like DG Ruparel, St Xaviers, Jhunjhunwala and Ruia.
Rehabilitation course by NAB
The National Association for the Blind is starting a free course from May 4 to prepare the blind in areas of employment, self employment, intensive vocational training and higher education.

IE staffer passes away at 43
Suhas Muralidhar Gidh, working with the Indian Express General Accounts department for the last 14 years, passed away on March 16. He was 43 years old. He is survived by his wife and two-year-old daughter.
