EMS cremated with full honours

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, March 20: The mortal remains of E M S Namboodiripad, eminent communist theoretician and former Kerala chief minister, who died on Thursday, was cremated with full state honours here this evening, marking the end of an era in Kerala's modern political history.

Union Home Minister L K Advani, who flew down from Delhi, led a host of dignitaries in paying their last respects to the patriarch who dominated and guided Kerala politics for nearly half-a-century.

A sea of humanity thronged the route of his last journey as the body of the former CPI(M) general secretary was taken in a flower-bedecked vehicle to the electric crematorium from the Durbar hall of the government secretariat where it had been kept for public homage.

Chief Minister E K Nayanar, CPI(M) general secretary Harkishen Singh Surjeet and his politburo colleagues, and CPI general secretary A B Bardhan were among the large number of leaders who accompanied the cortege.
