RAIPUR, April 3: An accused, charged for raping a pregnant woman, caused quite a sensation in the Court on Tuesday, when he hurled footwear at the Judge, who pronounced ten years' rigorous imprisonment to him.Rakhan Sahu, from Dulna village under Rajim police station in the district, raped a women who was eight months pregnant, on the night of July 24, 1995. According to eye-witnesses, he flew into rage when the fourth additional session Judge M P Sharma convicted and sentenced him to ten years RI and a fine of Rs 1,000. Sahu abused the Judge and threw a `chappal' at him.
The Judge ducked in time and the missile hit an advocate who was sitting on the dais. The Judge immediately asked the police to initiate action against the accused for this incident also. This is the second incident of its kind in the last five years in the district court premises.
Police sources said the sensational incident in the Court took place at about 3.20 pm on Tuesday.
Lawyers and Judges are disturbed over theincident and hearing in many cases was deferred following this episode. Police authorities are likely to be asked, henceforth, to beef up security for Judges and other Court employees. Jail superintendent's have also been advised not to produce undertrials in the court with their shoes and chappals on, so as to avoid repetition of such an event.
MAHASANGH TO OPPOSE GOVT MOVE: The Chhattisgarh Buddha Mahasangh will oppose the move of the Bharatiya Janata Party led government to make any changes in the Indian Constitution.
Ashok Bhutane, Sangh president, in a press note, clarified on Wednesday that the Buddha Mahasangh would start an agitation if the BJP remained adamant on the issue of tinkering with the statute. He urged the Prime Minister to reconsider.
EXAMINEES CAUGHT COPYING: As many as 12 students were caught copying in the examination rooms in various schools in the city on Tuesday.
A team of invigilators visited six centres conducting SSC examination for regular studentsand caught 12 students using unfair means during the Maths paper.
Most of these students, caught red-handed, belong to reputed schools like St Paul School, Holy Cross School, Byron Bazaar and Salem English High School.
CONCERN OVER LAW AND ORDER: Brijmohan Agrawal, Bharatiya Janata Party MLA, brought to the notice of the House, the deteriorating law and order situation in the city, with particular emphasis on the growing number of thefts and dacoities, as well as disappearance of young girls from various parts of the city.
In a press note here on Wednesday, Agrawal's spokesman Manoj Shukla said that Agrawal has raised the issue of the disappearance of young girls from the city during the last few months and criticised the incompetence of the police administration in tracing their whereabouts.
