Magisterial probe into Boisar plant blast

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
THANE, APRIL 4: Thane district collector Shrikant Singh today ordered a magisterial inquiry into the April 1 chemical explosion at a Boisar industrial unit which killed 6, including the Managing Director of the company. Thane sub-divisional inspector of police Ganesh Patil will conduct the inquiry and submit his report within two months.

Around 12.15 reactor vessels in Neutra Plast India Ltd exploded, destroying a factory building and burying workers in the debris.

Thane District Superintendent of Police (rural) Ashok Kamte said in his report that negligence on the part of the company was responsible for the accident. He added that a magisterial inquiry was necessary.

The terms of reference include finding the cause of the accident and what precautions should be taken to avert such accidents in future. Singh asked police officers of the Explosives Department, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and industrial safety and health officials to co-operate in the inquiry failing which criminal action would betaken against them under section 188.
