Woman held for bid to sell Diana love letters

AGENCE FRANCE PRESSE
LONDON, APRIL 4: A woman has been arrested here for trying to sell letters written by the Princess of Wales, to a former lover during a five-year affair, police said.

Anna Ferretti, an Italian, was detained as she was about to board a train to Paris, police said yesterday.

The Mirror daily said Ferretti, 39, has taken the 62 letters from a safe in the home of her ex-fiance James Hewitt and was trying to sell them for 1,50,000 pounds.

The paper said it took the letters and handed them over to the Princess's former office without payment. Ferretti's arrest came after she spoke to the newspaper again to say she regretted her actions.

``I now see how stupid I have been,'' she told the paper.

The Mirror published only broad summaries of the letters, in which Diana wrote of her marriage, children, charity work and hopes for the future. Some letters she signed as `Julia,' in others `Diana,' or `D' and a kiss. They were all sent through an intermediary.
