Prasad, Ganguly return to the fold
The Indian cricket team's stocks are on a bullish run. Every blue chip in the side has zoomed, taking the nation's cricketing sensex to a new high. This year they could do no wrong -- at least in the first quarter of the year -- as heckles have given way to hossannahs.
  Doubles trouble for India
Syed Fazaluddin was too anxious to get the doubles point for India. The 23-year-old Davis Cup rookie tried to do too many things in his first big match and ended up gifting many free points, even as the Italian doubles pair of Andrea Gaudenzi and Diego Nargiso helped Italy nose ahead with a 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win over the Indian duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Fazaluddin.

Manoj, Natekar rally to advance
Manoj Mahadevan went through a strange roller-coaster ride before emerging a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 winner over Myles Wakefield of South Africa in the first round of the qualifying event of the Gold Flake Open Tennis at the Nungambakkam stadium, on Saturday.
Baskaran optimistic

Certainly, Alex Radulescu will be missed at this year's tournament, which commences on Monday.
Captaincy muddle exposes IHF's flaws
The hoopla over naming of the captain of the Indian hockey team for Australia is reflective of the rudderless sailing of the National federation with the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. With a little over a month left for the World Cup in Utrecht, Holland, India's preparations are showing signs of running aground.
