  Sweden script stunning victory
Davis Cup holders Sweden pulled off an amazing comeback in their World Group first round tie against Slovakia coming from 0-2 down to win it 3-2, Magnus Gustaffson replacing Mikael Tillstrom to beat Dominik Hrbaty in four sets. The Swedes will now play Germany in the quarter-finals after the Germans thrashed South Africa 5-0.
  WI clinch ODI series
The West Indies, spurred by rookie fast bowlers Nixon McLean and Mervyn Dillon, secured a comfortable four-wicket victory over England with 12.2 overs to spare in the fourth Cable and Wireless one-day cricket international. It gave the home team an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series.

Fatigue looms large over Indians
The Pepsi Triangular series may have been hectic for the three teams, yet the results have been close and matches thrilling. Hosts India, having won both their matches, start their second encounter against Australia at the new-look Green Park in Kanpur with new vigour.
"Kuerten is a clown"
Spain's Davis Cup captain Manuel Santana described French Open champion Gustavo Kuerten as "a complete clown" in an attack on the Brazil player's behaviour at the weekend. Santana's criticism followed Spain's 3-2 victory over Brazil in their world group first-round clash in Porto Alegre. The Spanish captain said Kuerten had been verbally abusing him from the court.

Coetzer tames Spirlea
Amanda Coetzer did what the top seeds couldn't this week -- outlast Irina Spirlea and win the Family Circle Championship. Coetzer caught up with just about every drop shot and took the sting out of Spirlea's rocket forehands, winning 6-3, 6-4 for her first top-tier victory on the WTA Tour.
Delaitre scalps Scala in opener
One player was ranked 145 and the other ranked 147. On the face of it the match should have been a close contest. What, however, transpired was a lop-sided no contest. Olive Delaitre, the 30-year-old Frenchman, simply brushed aside the fragile challenge of Davide Scala, the 26-year-old Italian, 6-1, 6-3 in the first match of the Gold Flake Open at the Nungambakkam Stadium.
