Ex-AIIMS chief gets bail in forgery case

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, April 7: A Delhi court yesterday granted bail to former All India Institute of Medical Sciences' (AIIMS) director Dr S K Kacker in connection with a case relating to forging certain official documents, and issued a non-bailable warrant against the head of the department of gastroenterology at AIIMS, Dr Rakesh Tandon, for his failure to appear in court.

Metropolitan Magistrate Raj Rani Mitra directed Kacker to furnish a personal bond of Rs 10,000 and a surety of the same amount.

In 1996, gastroenterologist Anoop Saraya filed a complaint against the two for having ``forged official records to cause unlawful loss to the complainant... manipulated records in a manner whereby the complainant who was duly selected by the selection committee for appointment to the post of Assistant Professor, Gastroenterology, and placed no. 1 on the waiting list was deprived of the appointment.''

Saraya had appeared for the interview on July 20, 1993. There were two posts for Assistant Professor, for which theselection committee had recommended the names of S Desarathy and Gagan Sood. Saraya's was the first name on the waiting list.
