Britain, France ratify CTBT

INTER PRESS SERVICE
UNITED NATIONS, April 7: Britain and France Monday became the world's only two major nuclear powers to ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) which outlaws all nuclear explosions worldwide. "The CTBT is a cornerstone of international efforts to prevent nuclear proliferation. Britain's ratification yesterday signals our commitment to the goal of a nuclear weapons-free world," British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook said.

"The joint action illustrates the solidarity of our approach to issues of nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament," Ambassador Alain Dejammet of France said.
