Eight jawans killed in Naga ambush

KOHIMA: At least 12 persons including eight jawans were killed and 10 others injured in two separate incidents in Nagaland since Monday night, police said. The jawans were killed and ten others injured when underground activists ambushed an Assam Rifles convoy at Sangmator-Kiphre road, about 60 km from Tuensang, bordering Myanmar, on Tuesday afternoon. The identity of the underground activists was under investigation, police and Assam Rifles officials said, adding this was the first major attack on security forces after the on-going ceasefire agreement which came into force in the state in August last year.

Congman in SDF

GANGTOK: A Congress MLA has quit the party and joined the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) pushing the strength of the ruling party to 26 in the 32-member Assembly, SDF president and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has said. Announcing Sonam Chyoda Lepcha's entry into SDF at a press conference here on Monday, Chamling said another legislator,Namkha Gyaltsen Lama, was ``likely to follow Lepcha soon''.

Blasts case

COIMBATORE: Two more persons have been arrested in connection with the February 14 serial blasts here. Special Investigation Team of Tamil Nadu Crime Branch CID has arrested one Musthappa of Kottamedu in the city, for his alleged involvement in planting a bomb in a car.

Chavan in hospital

MUMBAI: Former Union home minister S B Chavan was today admitted to Bombay Hospital following complaints of stomach pain. The condition of the senior Congress leader was stable, hospital sources said.
