India play Britain in September

LONDON, April 9: India will face Britain in the World Group qualifying round of the Davis Cup to be played here from September 25 to 27.

India last played Britain in the World Group qualifying round in Delhi in 1993 and won the tie 4-1.

The draw for the World Group qualifying round was announced here today. The eight winning teams in this round will advance to the next year's World Group, while losers will drop to zonal competition.

The draw (H designates home country): All matches scheduled for September 25-27.

Britain (H) vs India, Ecuador vs Netherlands (H), Australia (H) vs Uzbekistan, Romania vs Brazil (H), Czech Republic (H) vs South Africa, Isreal (H) vs France, Russia vs Japan (H), Argentina (H) vs Slovakia.

Graf says no

MANNHEIM: Former world number one Steffi Graf will not be in the German Fed Cup team for the April 18-19 first round tie with Spain, it was announced today.

Her GMBH company said she will resume her training next week after a four-week layoff due to a thighinjury. Two exhibition matches with South African Amanda Coetzer scheduled for early next week were also cancelled.

Kournikova ready

PERTH: Russian Anna Kournikova is a definite starter for this month's Fed Cup tie against Australia.
