BSF register second consecutive victory

CALCUTTA, April 9: Border Security Force (BSF) registered their second straight win the the quarter-final league of the 103rd Beighton Cup hockey tournament at the East Bengal ground here today. The Jalandhar side defeated Orissa XI by a solitary goal scored by Linus Ekka in the 54th minute.

Ekka, who had scored yesterday also, pushed a Shinu Herenz cross from the right into the Orissa goal in the 54th minute to clinch the issue for BSF. For Orissa XI, it was their second defeat in the quarter-final league.

In another match, Rail Coach Factory (Kapurthala) downed Bangladesh XI 2-0 at the Mohun Bagan ground. Bangladesh XI, the only foreign side in fray after Afgan XI pulled out, were no match for the better equipped Kapurthala side. Tirbus Ekka put RCF ahead in the 25th minute through a penalty corner. In the 46th minute, Lalit Ekka capitalised on a Ansuranjan Tete cross from the right to make it 2-0.
