Devinder double floors Kiwis

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
SYDNEY, April 9: Devinder Kumar celebrated his belated return to the international arena by scoring both of India's goals in its 2-1 victory over New Zealand in the storm-delayed opening match of the Colorado Cup four-nation hockey tournament at the State Sport Centre here tonight.

Devinder Kumar, who last played for India four years ago, scored field goals in the seventh and 27th minutes. Andrew van der Bent pulled one back in the 50th minute of the game, which was delayed for two and a half hours, Australia Association Press (AAP) reports.

Sydney's first heavy rainfall for some time threatened to make the opening night of the tournament a washout, but play began just after 1500 hrs IST, two and a half hours behind scheduled start.

He scored a fine solo goal when he dashed into the circle and lashed a shot past New Zealand goal keeper and captain Scott Anderson. He squeezed his second home from a tight angle after a terrific run and pass from Sabu Varkey. His opportunism showed up New Zealand whichshaded territory early on and created some chances.
