Suicide bid by sacked worker

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Nashik, April 9: Close on the heels of a sacked female worker of a poultry farm, Sangeeta Dive, immolating herself on April 2, a worker of the Mahindra and Mahindra automobile factory at Nashik attempted suicide by consuming insecticide yesterday.

Sanjay Vishnu Sapkal (28), hailing from Raikhede near Malkapur in Buldhana district, was working as a mechanic on temporary basis since 1992 in the Armada section of the Mahindras. The company had terminated about 1,200 temporary workers last month, citing recession in the automobile industry. Sanjay was one of them.

Loss of job had depressed Sanjay, who had been engaged recently and was planning to get married soon. Yesterday, he was found unconscious in his room by friends. Sanjay was rushed to the Nashik civil hospital, where he is still in coma. The incident has caused flutter in labour circles.
