BANGALORE, April 9: Barely 24 hours after Transport Minister PGR Sindhia attempted to resign from the J H Patel ministry, former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda's son H D Kumaraswamy on Wednesday resigned as general secretary of the State Janata Dal.He, however, offered to work as an ordinary party worker. The appointment of Kumaraswamy as an observer to Kolar district as part of the party rejuvenation programme was the last straw for the former Kanakapura Lok Sabha member to put in his papers. Kumaraswamy expressed anguish and concern at his father, brother and himself being maligned for whatever went wrong in the party, in his three page letter.
Kumaraswamy said Sindhia accompanied his father on only one day in the eight Assembly segments in Kanakapura constituency during campaigning on the eve of 1998 Lok Sabha elections. ``I, however, have no objection to this..But when people were viewing each development in all seriousness, a concocted story was allowed to float...According to this story, myself andmy brother H D Revanna (Housing Minister) had attacked Sindhia...Newspapers gave `colourful' publicity to this story''. He added: ``We expected that Sindhia would naturally react to this...But he did not show the minimum courtesy of clarifying to the press at any of his daily briefings. ``This resulted in my family becoming the target of scurrilous reports and analysis," he said.
