IV fluid contamination detected in Chennai hosp.

CHENNAI, April 8: A City hospital has reported contamination of IV fluid manufactured by a leading company. The turbid fluid, visibly containing fungus, carrys a label claiming that it is sterile, but warning that it should not be used if found to be contaminated. The Assistant Drugs Controller of India had issued a warning to all hospitals in the country to test samples of IV fluids before use, following complaints of fever and chills from patients who had been administered IV fluids and injections at some Chennai hospitals in 1997.
