  Zimbabwe taste Azhar-Jadeja thunder
Brilliant centuries by skipper Mohammed Azharuddin and his deputy Ajay Jadeja and an unbroken world record partnership of 275 runs between them helped India thrash Zimbabwe by 32 runs in their last league match of the Pepsi triangular cricket series at the Barabati Stadium here on Thursday.
  Lambert, Lara lash England
Opener Clayton Lambert hit his maiden One-day century and captain Brian Lara, 93, as West Indies whipped England by 57 runs in the fifth and final Cable And Wireless One-Day Cricket International. Lambert and Lara, both left-handers, piloted the home team to a formidable 302 for five off 50 overs. England lost wickets at regular intervals and eventually bowled out for 245.

Jaded Paes trudges into quarter-finals
Leander Paes played patchy tennis, looked fatigued and ready to give up. But early in the third and deciding set, it was, his opponent Jerome Golmard who retired. After two hours of mediocre tennis, the second round match in the Gold Flake Open at the Nungambakkam Stadium had a premature denouement with Paes winning, 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 3-1 (retired).
Hyderabad struggle
Hyderabad squared off against Karnataka in their Ranji Trophy cricket semi-final encounter that was full of application but had little adventure on Day One of the five-day match at the Gymkhana. The home side, who won an important toss in the morning and then deciding to bat first, meandered on to score 200 for three in 90 overs.

"Paes-Bhupathi ready for No 1 spot"
Some people are branded as doubles players despite being consistent in singles on the ATP tour. Australian Todd Woodbridge is one such, yet to get due recognition. Woodbridge, who has won 51 titles in doubles with Mark Woodforde, has become something of a legend. He said that the the duo have improved a lot in the last one year to be ready for the no.1 spot.
Princely performances by Rao, Basnet
The Indian boxing coach GS Sandhu said that two youngsters -- Srinivas Rao and Rajesh Basnet -- were "very impressive" at the King's Cup championships held in Bangkok (Thailand) recently. However, the coach denied that Basnet had reached the finals, as reported by agencies earlier.
