India outplay Pakistan

KHANNA (LUDHIANA): India outplayed Pakistan comprehensively 54-33 to take a decisive 3-1 lead in the fourth of the Five Circle kabaddi Test matches here on Saturday. Indians went into the lead through Bhupinder Singh and their star raider Malkiat Singh Angrej of Punjab State Electricity Board added two points to read it 3-0. The visitors made some productive raids and almost caught up with their rivals at half time (23-20).

After changing ends, Indians played better game and started collecting points. Kulwinder Singh Kinda, Jasbir Singh Mangi and Mukhtiar Singh Pappu exhibited fine play enabling India to garner some vital points.

Easy for seeds

CHENNAI: Five teams -- Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), Indian Airlines, Indian Bank, Southern Railway A and the hosts Central Revenue Sports Board (CRSB) -- scored full points in the inaugural round of the CRSB ninth National Institutional team chess championship here.

Results (1st round): NLC (4) bt P&T(Chennai) 0, Canara Bank 0 lost to Indian Airlines 4, Indian Bank 4 bt TNEB 0, RBI (Chennai) 1.5 lost to LIC 2.5, ICF (Chennai) 3.5 bt Income-Tax 0.5, Southern Railway 4 bt IT Settlement 0, Major Ports 3 bt Southern Railway B 1, CRSB Mixed 0 lost to CRSB, CPWD 1.5 lost to ONGC 2.5.
