Kambli declared free from fracture

MUMBAI, April 11: Vinod Kambli's comeback plans have been put on hold after he suffered a nasty ankle injury during the one-day international cricket match against Zimbabwe at Cuttack on Thursday.

The Mumbai left-hander, who flew in from Cuttack yesterday underwent a check-up at Nanavati hospital here today morning, informed Prof Ratnakar Shetty, joint secretary, Maharashtra Cricket Association.

``He was taken to the Nanavati hospital under the guidance of Dr Ali Irani (former Indian team's physio). The doctors at the hospital have asked him to report again on April 20 for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Till then he has been advised complete rest,'' Shetty said. ``The doctors said that there is no fracture as feared earlier but only a dislocation,'' he added.

Kambli dislocated his right ankle while substituting for a dehydrated skipper Mohammed Azharuddin in the Zimbabwe innings. Kambli was chasing a Heath Streak, from point, when he slipped and fell flat on his right ankle. Writhing, he was carriedoff the field on a stretcher and then rushed to SCB Medical College. Kambli left for his Pune residence this afternoon.
