Governors' reshuffle, team expansion soon

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, April 12: Within three weeks of taking power, the BJP-led government is all set to undertake not only a Cabinet expansion, but has also decided to review the appointments of the Governors of Goa and Mizoram that were done by the "caretaker" Gujral government.

Prime Minister A B Vajpayee told journalists today after the national awards investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan that the Cabinet would soon be expanded before the next session of Parliament in the third week of May, but refused to give any more details. "I can't even give a tentative date," he said.Home Minister L K Advani also told journalists that the government was readying to undertake a major reshuffle of Governors, including reviewing the appointments of the Governors to Goa and Mizoram.

"In this next one or two days, or at least within this week, a number of states will have new Governors," Advani told journalists. Posts in West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharastra areeither vacant or incumbents are about to complete their tenures. Satish Chandra and Arun Prosad Mukherjee were appointed to Goa and Mizoram, respectively, by the "caretaker" Gujral government in January, Advani said, after the Lok Sabha was dissolved and that too when the election process had already begun. A review could also mean the cancellation of the appointment.
