Charges in cremation shed scam filed

CHENNAI, April 13: Over two years after the Madras High Court ordered a probe into the Jawahar Rozgar Yojana cremation shed scandal pertaining to Madurai district, the CBI is all set to file the chargesheet in the case in a week's time. The CBI will launch prosecution proceedings against two Ministers in the erstwhile AIADMK cabinet and three IAS officers.

Sources told The Indian Express that the investigations had been completed with respect to Madurai district and the then Local Administration Minister T M Selvaganapathi, former Khadi Minister Eswaramoorthy, his PA Mohan, and three IAS officers - the then Rural Development Secretary J T Acharyulu, former Rural Development Director M Sathyamoorthy and former Madurai District Collector R Sampath, will be prosecuted. The CBI has already obtained sanction of the Central and State governments to launch the prosecution proceedings. The chargesheet will be laid in the Special Court set up in Madurai.

The three IAS officers were among the first to beexposed in the JRY scandal. While the CBI had initially included only the three IAS officers for launching prosecution proceedings, the two former ministers were later included.
