MUMBAI, April 18: It is strange, but true. The alliance government has allotted tenements constructed under the centrally sponsored Indira Awas Yojana to dead persons.Disclosing the serious lapses of the alliance government in the legislative assembly, leader of the opposition Madhukar Pichad said the Nashik District Rural and Development Agency constructed a total of 60 houses under the scheme. Of these, it allotted 11 houses to dead persons from Kothure village in Niphad tehsil of the Nashik district.
``I have a list of all the beneficiaries and the death certificates of those persons, who were allotted the houses,'' Pichad said while participating in the budgetary demands of the rural development and environment departments.
Pichad demanded a high-level inquiry into the manner in which the centrally sponsored programme was being implemented in the state. ``For the current year, a provision of Rs 40.66 crore has been made for construction of 70,000 houses in the state. I feel that the entireprogramme should be monitored at a higher level to ensure quality construction,'' Pichad added.
The opposition leader also demanded the resignation of Rural Development Minister Anna Dange for the row over the supply of free uniforms to backward class students. ``Since specific allegations have been made against Dange in the writ petition filed before the High Court, I feel that he should resign from the cabinet,'' Pichad added.
