Gill to seek re-election
NEW DELHI: Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) president KPS Gill today announced he would be standing for a second term in the May 10 IHF elections and General Body Meeting to be held in Hyderabad.Gill said it was too early to say whether the same team of office-bearers will seek re-election as a panel. The present set was elected in the last elections held at Bhopal in June, 1994.
Tourney put off
MUMBAI: THE Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has decided to put off the inaugural Inter-City four-team summer league day-night cricket tournament, which was scheduled here from May 4-11, ``in the interest of cricket and cricketers.''
MCA joint secretary Prof Ratnakar Shetty today said in a release here that the Rs 9 lakh prize money tournament was proposed at a time when there was no domestic or international programme charted out by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
``However, with the announcement of the Triangular series (by BCCI) involving India,Kenya and Bangladesh (May 11-24), the availability of leading cricketers would be in doubt,'' Shetty said in a release.
