Ban on plying of trucks in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH, April 20: To ascertain the feasibility of its proposed ban on plying of trucks in the city and restricting their movements to a fixed route, the City police will conduct a trial on Wednesday.

Teams of traffic policemen and traffic wardens would be deployed at six border points Dhillon barrier, Mani Majra, Zirakpur barrier, Sarangpur barrier, Mohali barrier in Sector 39, the New Mohali barrier and the Mattaur road barrier, police sources said. These teams would stop and divert all trucks and tractor trolleys, between 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the morning and between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the evening, and diverted them onto the new route, it was added.
