  Buta sacked to soothe Jaya
Meeting Jayalalitha's demand half-way down, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee yesterday sacked Union communications minister Buta Singh from his cabinet. He also spoke to Jayalalitha over the telephone and assured her that he "values the AIADMK's continuing cooperation and support".
  BJP turns the heat on Digvijay Singh
The Madhya Pradesh unit of the BJP has adopted a belligerent attitude towards the State's Congress Government and called upon Chief Minister Digvijay Singh to resign. The BJP has said the Congress government has failed in all spheres in the past four and half years and asked it to get a fresh mandate from the people.

Jaya has no claim on moral values: Moopanar
Tamil Maanila Congress president G K Moopanar on Monday said the BJP's claim of providing an able and stable government had proved hollow within just a few weeks, going by recent developments. He disputed AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalitha's claim that she sought "high standards and probity" in public life by asking Sedapatti R Muthiah to step down as Union Minister for Transport.
Ministers too sore over CM's veil on riots report
The suspense over the tabling of the Srikrishna Commission report on the Mumbai riots in the State Legislature continues with Chief Minister Manohar Joshi choosing to keep it under wraps. It was expected that Joshi would make public the report on Monday as promised earlier.

Advani claims he was aware of IB report on "sensitive" Udhampur
A concerted strategy involving the Centre, Jammu and Kashmir and defence forces would have to be evolved soon to tackle the terrorist activities being abetted by Pakistan in the border state, the Union Home Minister L K Advani declared yesterday. Having returned after visiting the site of the massacre in Udhampur district, he said he was moved by the brutality of the killings.
Govt willing to hold talks with Suzuki
The Indian government is willing to hold talks with Suzuki for settling the dispute over Maruti Udyog, Sukbir Singh Badal, minister of state for industry, who holds charge of the department of heavy industry said on Monday. On sacrificing RSSLN Bhaskarudu, managing director, Maruti, for peace with Suzuki, Badal remarked that this would be an irrational way of determining the terms of the dialogue.
