McMillan anchors Kiwis to narrow win
The Indian batting collapsed and a plucky New Zealand kept their cool to scrape through to a four-wicket victory with just one over to spare in an exciting finish to remain in the race in the Coca Cola Sharjah Cup cricket tournament last night. Indian batsmen messed up things despite the toss going their way scoring 181 all out in 49.3 overs and then missed just the sparkle in the field as the Kiwis managed to reach 183 for six wickets in 49 overs.

Hingis steers Swiss to victory
Martina Hingis won three matches, including a three-set defeat of Jana Novotna, to guide Switzerland to a 4-1 victory over the Czech Republic in their Federation Cup World Group tie. World number one Hingis overcame early nerves to defeat world number three Novotna 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to put the Swiss up 2-1.

Becker rallies to notch win
Boris Becker rallied from a set down to beat Jan Siemerink, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1, today to gain the second round of the Monte Carlo Open tennis tournament on Monday. Becker, a three-time finalist and winner of six Grand Slams, is in semi-retirement this year and his rustiness showed making uncharacteristic errors on his serve in the first set.

Middlesex hard done by software
Middlesex walked off the Canterbury pitch believing their first match in the English 40-overs cricket league this season had ended in a tie, only to discover they had lost to Kent by one run.
