Xu Yuhua takes title with final round draw

Kuala Lumpur, April 21: Top seed Xu Yuhua of China tallied 8.5 points to win the title at the Asian Women Chess Championship and the coveted Grandmaster norm here today.

In the final round, Yuhua drew with Lee Phyonglien (Vietnam), to annex the Indira Gandhi Trophy and a cash prize of $500.

WGM Eva Repkova defeated Ngan Koshnitsky of Australia after a marathon endgame to finish second. India's International Women Master Bhagyashree Thipsay with six points was tied for the sixth to eighth position while IWM Anupama Gokhale was tied for ninth to 11th position with six points.

In today's games, Thipsay beat Samantha Lee of Malaysia while Gokhale beat Macau's Lee Wing.
