Russian neo-Nazis terrorise Indian student community

MOSCOW, April 21: At least three Indians were attacked on the streets of Moscow by the Russian admirers of Hitler on Fuherer's birthday yesterday.A girl student of one of the medical institutes was hospitalised after she was assaulted by a group of Russian Nazis near her hostel in Izmailovsky Park area in East Moscow.

According to the Indian embassy sources, she was out of danger. They also confirmed the reports of attacks on two other young Indian businessmen in separate incidents elsewhere in Moscow.

The Indian consular officials, however, declined to disclose the identity of the victims of racial attacks. The Moscow police authorities, on its part, has dubbed the incidents as "hooliganism".

Meanwhile, several thousand panic stricken students from Asian and African countries studying in Russian Friendship University and other higher educational institutions of the Russian capital, boycotted their classes yesterday following the press reports about the Russian neo-Nazi's threat to kill one Asianeveryday for a week beginning on Hitler's birthday.

According to Indian students, several students from Africa and Bangladesh were also attacked by the racist neo-Nazi gangs over the weekend. No independent confirmation was available as yet.

The Indian embassy has contacted the Russian authorities to tighten security around foreign student's hostels after a delegation of Indian students met senior embassy officials pleading protection in view of growing attacks by the racist juvenile gangs.

Several Indian medical students and research scholars were harassed and brutally beaten by the Russian neo-Nazi youth gangs last month near their hostel forcing the Indian embassy to lodge a strong protest with the Russian foreign ministry and demand effective action by the authorities to ensure their safety.
