Seminar on IEDs

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, April 21: The College of Military Engineering (CME) will host a two-day national seminar to study the threats posed by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) across the subcontinent, on April 28 and 29.

Announcing this at a press conference here today, Lt Gen A K Puri, Commandant of the CME, said that the seminar would be the first of its kind wherein officials in the military forces, central and state police organisations, paramilitary forces and foreign delegates will participate.

Terming the increased use of IEDs as a `cancerous problem,' Lt Gen Puri said, it has a demoralising effect on the polity and society. The recent blasts in Coimbatore were a manifestation of the threat posed by IEDs, he said.

The two-day seminar will be inaugurated at the hands of Vice Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen S Chandrashekhar, PVSM, AVSM, on April 28. It will be participated by various serving and retired army officers, senior police officers from various states, and delegates of the British, Sri Lankan and South African Army.
